3D FINITE ELEMENT METHOD MODELING OF OPTOELECTRONIC STIMULATION DEVICES

An interactive walk-through of a time-dependent finite element COMSOL Multiphysics model of an organic electrolytic photocapacitor (OEPC) coupled to a voltage-gated cell membrane will be presented in tutorial style. A numerically solved Hodgkin–Huxley model applied to a 3D geometry will be used as an excitable cell model. Spatial-temporal distributions of electric field and electric potential will be shown for selected geometries and temporal stimulations. Influence of OEPC shape and stimulation frequency on the response of the model cell will be demonstrated.
