FOUNDING OF LABORATORY FOR NEUROELECTRONICS AND BRAIN COMPUTER INTERACTIONS @ CROATIAN INSTITUTE FOR BRAIN RESEARCH

Neuroelectronic interfaces show great potential for research of the central nervous system, especially in neurophysiology. We are currently in the process of founding a new Laboratory for neuroelectronics and brain computer interactions at Croatian Institute for Brain Research. The group will be based on the interdisciplinary approach in which experts from the Faculty of Science, Department of Physics and the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb, will be engaged in the research and development of wireless, neuro-stimulation technology by organic photocapacitors (PhotoCaps). Different types of PhotoCaps and different types of light stimulation will be used on three levels: primary cell cultures, brain slices and animals in vivo for electrophysiological, Ca2+ imaging and behavioral experiments. Furthermore, PhotoCap stimulation recordings will be used to train an artificial intelligence (AI) as a novel approach to problem solving and for control of the stimulation process in the future. Second goal of the new Laboratory will be to use the AI for complex spatio-temporal research of neural networks.
